Selank is a synthetic analog of the immunomodulatory peptide procoagulant; ita, it mimics many of its effects. It has been shown to regulate the expression of interleukin 6 (II.-6) and influence the balance of T helper cytokines. It has been shown to affect the concentration of monoamine neurotransmitters and induce the metabolism of serotonin. Selank was also found to rapidly increase the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the rat hippocampus.
