Betamethasone-17-valerate is a high-potency topical fluorinated corticosteroid with low systemic effects. It has been classified as group D by Coopman et al. According the A-D grouping, patch-test reactions occur 6-7 times more frequently within well-defined groups of structurally related chemicals than between corticosteroids of different groups.
Betamethasone topical is used to help relieve redness, itching, zwelling, or other discomfort caused by skin conditions. Betamethasone foam is used for scalp problems. This medicine is a corticosteroid (cortisone-like medicine or steroid).
